Burned Iconic Architecture Will Be Demolished In Rancho Mirage

The former Chart House Restaurant in Rancho Mirage that burned last January will be demolished, as the Desert Sun reports.

It's really too bad; it was a beautiful building, inside and out.  Read more about the building, designed reportedly by Ken Kellogg, at Curbed LA.

I admired that building every time I drove by it.  I'll miss it terribly.

The Desert Sun reports that the Ruth Hardy Park Neighborhood has a new name.  Our local MLS had already made the change to the new official Movie Colony East name quite some time ago. The new signs will be unveiled Saturday.

Palm Springs International Short Film Festival

June is shaping up to be a busy tourist month in Palm Springs.  The giant Marilyn statue downtown isn't the only draw, though.  The annual Palm Springs International Shortfest kicks off June 19th and runs through the 25th.

This year, celebrated filmmaker Gus Van Sant will be in town to receive the ShortFest's Spirit of Short Film Award.

Van Sant, a two-time best director nominee for “Good Will Hunting” and “Milk,” will give a Directing Master Class at 2:30 p.m. June 23. A selection of his short films will be presented and he'll participate in a Q&A with festival Programming and Executive Director Darryl Macdonald. He'll also receive the ShortFest Spirit of Short Film Award. - The Desert Sun
